Brockport High students
experience Day of Dance at SUNY Brockport
On Wednesday, November 6, seven Brockport High School students were among those who participated in A Day of Dance at the Department of Dance at SUNY Brockport. Senior Alaina Puchalski, Juniors Bettina Sebastian, Amanda Zale and Retta Spencer and freshmen Danielle Pelcher, Shannon Harwood and Jessica St. George participated in the day. They toured the college's dance facilities, joined in dance classes, talked with faculty members about the broad range of careers in the world of dance.
A total of thirty students from five school districts in western Monroe County enjoyed the full-day of dance activities.
"We want to introduce the students to dance at the college level," said SUNY Brockport assistant professor of dance Juanita Suarez, who directed the day. "Dance has a lot of components and is very interdisciplinary."
A Day of Dance is a collaborative program between Project ADEPT, a Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, and the Department of Dance at SUNY Brockport. Project ADEPT gives talented students the opportunity to explore their interests with students from other school districts by working with professionals. A Day of Dance is one of 16 seminars planned for high school students this school year.
