Megan Specksgoor, sixth grade student at Churchville-Chili Intermediate School, and Devin Flood, eighth grade student at Churchville-Chili Junior High School, each won first place in a local poster competition sponsored by the Churchville Lions Club.

Specksgoor's and Flood's posters are among more than 325,000 entries submitted worldwide in the fifteenth annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. This year's contest theme, "Dream of Peace," emphasized the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.

Separate contests sponsored by the Churchville Lions Club were held at the Intermediate and Junior High Schools. Locally, the club awarded a $50 U.S. Savings Bond and certificate of achievement from Lions International to each first, second and third place winner. Each fourth and fifth place winner received a certificate of achievement and a $10 gift certificate to a video outlet.

Second through fifth place winners in the Intermediate School were respectively, Kaylee Finton, Kara Golis, Julie Morningstar and Rachel Murphy.

Second through fifth place winners at the Junior High School were respectively, Kristen Spaulding, Carolyn Lyons, Michelle Gallo and Douglass Bish.

During a brief presentation at the Intermediate and Junior High Schools, John Rabideau, International Director for New York State and Bermuda, and Don Jones, contest chairman from the Churchville Lions, presented the awards to the students. Specksgoor's and Flood's posters were selected from over 450 entries from the Intermediate School and Junior High School.
