Gingerbread House Contest at Ogden Farmers' Library in December
Gingerbread House Contest
at Ogden Farmers' Library in December

The Ogden Farmers' Library holds their second annual Gingerbread House Contest and invites community members to enter their original house designs by Saturday, December 7 at 4:30 p.m. Houses will be on display in the library through Saturday, December 21, when entries will be judged and winners announced at 1 p.m. The Friends of the Ogden Farmers' Library have provided cash prizes as follows: $100 for the Judges' Choice, $50 for the Peoples' Choice, and two $25 honorable mentions. Judges for this event include Gay Lenhard, Ogden Supervisor; Carolyn Schuler, from the Monroe County Library System; Doreen Castano, Library trustee; and Ann Curtis, friend of the library. Staff and trustees of the library and their family members are not eligible to enter.

Houses must be constructed of gingerbread, although the design and decoration is entirely up to the baker. Bakers are encouraged to build their houses on sturdy bases that will withstand transport to the library. Although houses may be made and entered by a single person, past experience has shown that house construction is a great family project. There are numerous books and websites available to help with the baking and design process. Contact Patty Uttaro at 352-2141 for further information.
