Eastern Orleans United Way
raises $138,000 for community
The annual Eastern Orleans United Way/Red Cross Campaign raised $138,224 representing 89 percent of their $155,000 goal. However, a few employee campaigns are still underway and campaign organizers remain hopeful that the final figure will significantly increase.
Dollars collected in the annual appeal support 11 area health and human service organizations in addressing a wide range of needs. The contributions to the annual appeal remain within the local community, funding services and programs that help children get a better start in school and life; teenagers make smart choices; families grow stronger; those with disabilities live full lives; and seniors remain independent.
"It would be great if we could say we reached our goal, because falling short means less dollars that are available to support needed services and programs. And that affects us all. Corporate downsizing and a strained economy continued to have a major impact on our efforts," remarked Sue Shuler, branch manager, HSBC Band and 2002 campaign co-chair. "But, despite the personal struggles, economic pressures, fear and uncertainty many are facing, our community gave generously. And I am proud to be part of such a caring community that gives so generously to help others."
