Collichio shuts out Canisius
Senior goaltender Mike Collichio stopped all 20 shots as the Hilton Cadets shutout Canisius 3-0 in the first round of the Aquinas High School Hockey Tournament November 30 at Lakeshore Rinks.
"We just outworked them and Mike came up big in the third period," said head coach John Farnham after the game. The shutout was the second in Collichios high school career (he would register his third the next day against Gates Chili).
The Cadets got on the scoreboard at the 13:08 mark of the first period when Jim Burgio one-timed a Jim Dill pass on the power play. Kyle Davis also picked up an assist on the play.
Hilton made it 2-0 in the second period when Jason Drummey pounced on a rebound from a Pat Curran shot at 8:47. Dill picked up his second assist of the game on the play.
The icing came in the final three minutes of the second period when Joe Patarino raced around two Canisius defenders while shorthanded, cut to the slot and fired a shot past the goaltender for the 3-0 lead they would not relinquish.
Joe Christiano and Adam Lynch scored in the 2-0 victory over Gates Chili in the second round as the Cadets raised their record to 2-1 on the young season.
