Rangers fall to Eagles

"We need to start communicating and playing game strategy. The players need to tell each other where the open spots and locations are on the court." Spencerport head volleyball coach Michael Zeman expressed his concerns after Irondequoit swept the Rangers 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 in girl’s volleyball December 3 at home.

In the first game, the Rangers battled back from four points down to tie at 22-22 on kills by Kelly Schweikert, Christine Jackson and Melissa Watson along with an ace served by Jessica Bartock. Again tied at 23-23, the Eagles picked up the final two points to win.

The second game had the Eagles up by as many as five points before the Rangers again fought back to tie the game at 17-17 before Irondequoit won eight of the final eleven points. The Rangers again trailed by six in the third game before going on a 6-0 run of their own, but they could get no closer than two points in the loss.

Watson and Schweikert led with five kills each while Jackson led with five blocks to go with her three kills. Setter Laura Stultz led with 22 assists while Caitlin O’Brien was the setter in the middle game and chipped in with 10 assists. The Rangers fell to 0-2 to start the season.
