Hartwick College senior Susan J. Pelo of Churchville, daughter of Edward A. Pelo and Carol Marie M. Pelo, has been accepted for inclusion in the national publication, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Candidacy for inclusion is based on academic performance, leadership positions in student organizations, and contributions to the campus community.
Pelo is majoring in political science. At Hartwick, she has participated in Women's Varsity Swimming and Diving, Student Senate, Student Union, Big Brother/Big Sister Program, Champs, and Alpha Omicron Pi.
Two SUNY College at Brockport undergraduate students from the Hamlin area were among the 17 named this fall to the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, Beta Tau Chapter. To be eligible, students must demonstrate significant achievement, including maintaining an overall grade point average of 3.00 (out of 4.00) or better.
Joining the SUNY Brockport Beta Tau Chapter from the region are: Kymberly C. Goltermann of Lake Road and Katie Spinelli of Victor Lane.
William Heyen of Brockport has been selected to be included in the 57th edition (2003) of "Who's Who in America," a biographical source for thousands of researchers, journalists, librarians and for various organizations around the world.
Heyen, 62, retired as Professor of English/Poet in Residence at SUNY Brockport. He holds a Ph. D. from Ohio University. His honors and awards include a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship for Poetry, a Senior Fulbright Lectureship in American Literature to Germany, two National Endowment for the Arts Individual Fellowships, and a poetry award from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. He has lectured and read his poetry at more than 200 universities in this country and abroad, and has been recognized as one of America's leading poets. His letters and manuscripts have been collected by the University of New Hampshire, Ohio University, Boston University, and the University of Rochester.
Heyen has edited three major anthologies: American Poets in 1976, The Generation of 2000: Contemporary American Poets, and the recent September 11, 2001: American Writers Respond. His own books include Noise in the Trees (an American Library Association Notable Book), Erika: Poems of the Holocaust, Ribbons: The Gulf War, The Host: Selected Poems, Pterodactyl Rose: Poems of Ecology, and Crazy Horse in Stillness (winner of the Small Press Book Award, 1997). His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Nation, The American Scholar, American Poetry Review, Poetry, Kenyon Review, and in hundreds of anthologies.
Heyen lives in Brockport with his wife, Hannelore. Both have been elected to SUNY Brockport's "Hall of Heritage." They have two children and four grandchildren.
Theresa K. Kihn, a 1999 graduate of Holley Junior/Senior High School and daughter of Gail A. Kihn and Thomas J. Kihn of Holley, graduated from the University of Tampa in December with a bachelor of science degree in psychology. She is a member of Psi Chi.
Kristin Ann Evenski of Churchville graduated from SUNY Fredonia in December with a bachelor of arts degree in visual arts/graphic design.
William Weiner of Albano Drive, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list at Johnson and Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island. He is majoring in computerized drafting.
Meghan D. Byrnes, of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list at Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia. Byrnes is a fibers major and the daughter of Kevin Byrnes.
Timothy C. Smallidge was inducted into the Alpha Theta Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Monroe Community College in November.
Smallidge, majoring in mechanical engineering, is the son of Chuck and Joyce Smallidge of Spencerport.

Angela Kennelly of Lake Road, Bergen, has been named a 2002 Presidential Scholar by SUNY Brockport. Presidential Scholars must have a high school average of 93 or higher, rank in the top 20 percent of their class, and have a 1200 or higher SAT or 26 ACT score. The scholarship is valued at more than $18,000 and provides free room and partial board for up to four years.
Marine Corps Private Matthew H. Raymonda, son of Carole A. and James B. Raymonda of Peach Blossom Road South, Hilton, has completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.
Raymonda is a 2002 graduate of Hilton Central High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Giles G. Crosier has arrived for duty at Hurlburt Field, Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Crosier is an aircraft communication and navigation system apprentice assigned to the 16th Aircraft Generation Squadron.
He is the son of Nelson D. and Marcia M. Crosier of County Line Road, Holley and a 1998 graduate of Brockport High School.
