Water projects major 2002 accomplishments in Kendall
On-going water projects were the order of business for a major portion of 2002, Kendall Supervisor John Becker said.
With the completion of Water District #4, more than 230 houses will have access to public water, he said. "Were working on another water project with Hamlin
part of one of those projects will give us access to a second water line," Becker explained. "Right now Kendall only has one water line that supplies the entire town. When we complete the project with Hamlin we will have access to a second one."
The joint water projects with Hamlin will encompass property along Lake Ontario to Norway Heights, through the Salvation Army Camp and along to Hamlin Beach State Park. Most of the property for the second project will be for Hamlin but will benefit Kendall because of the second water line installation.
The town also purchased a new 10-wheel highway truck complete with snow plow in 2002.
The biggest development for Kendall was the receipt of a $562,000 small cities grant from the Economic Development Corp. for the Eagle Creek Marina. The grant, Becker said, will help Eagle Creek expand its facilities, create more than 30 jobs, construct a new building and add additional pump out stations and a fueling station. "This will be the cause of a major expansion for the marina," he said.
The toughest part for officials, Becker said, is holding the line on taxes. "With the increases in county and school budgets, we really try to hold the line on our increases," he said. "On average, homeowners will probably pay $20 more for their taxes this year."
The reason for the increase, he said, is the escalating cost of insurance for the town.
