Lakeside Beikirch Care Center resident celebrates her 110th birthday
January 1 was a double celebration for Emma Stark - not only was it New Year's Day, it was also her 110th Birthday. Mrs. Stark also celebrated her wedding anniversary on New Year's Day. She wed husband, Frank, on January 1, 1916.
Mrs. Stark was born on January 1, 1893, in Flanders, New Jersey. She later moved with her family to Bronx, New York, where she lived for 65 years. After her husband, Frank, died April 1978, Mrs. Stark lived with her oldest grandson, Frank Schrimp, and his wife, Joan, in New Jersey. In 1984, they moved to Irondequoit.
Emma Stark resided for a time at St. Ann's Home. In 1996, the family relocated to Brockport, and she has been residing at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in Brockport ever since.
Care Center staff enjoy listening to her sing, especially her rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." She also loves to tell staff stories about fire horses, the flat iron building, the Titanic and anything else from days gone by.
Mrs. Stark is well known to her family and friends by her beautifully crocheted dolls and hats. She enjoyed this hobby right up until she was 100 years old. She received a great deal of pleasure from crocheting items for friends and family who treasure the gifts.
Mrs. Stark has three grandsons, nine great-grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, one great-great-great grandchild and a second is due in March 2003. One grandson lives in California, the rest of her family lives in New Jersey, Long Island and Albany.
A small birthday celebration was held at the Care Center.
