Chili's town website undergoes major update
What makes a good website? That question has been on the mind of the Town of Chili's Director of Management Information Services (MIS) for the past few months as he has been completely redeveloping the town's website.
"The primary goal of our website is to provide town residents and businesses with as much information as possible so as to make their interactions with local government as easy as possible," said Chris Levey, the director of MIS.
In addition to public outreach, a key to maintaining a good website is keeping it updated. To accomplish this, each department within the town has been made responsible for the content on their area of the site and have been asked to provide frequent updates for their information.
According to Levey, features of the new and improved website include:
- Businesses are able to pay for Fire Safety Permits online, eliminating their need to come to the Town Hall for the purchase.
- A survey is conducted, polling constituents with regard to current Chili issues.
- Users can register to receive news from the town via email.
- 'Posssitively Chili' t-shirts, sweatshirts, and polo shirts can be purchased online.
- A narrative and Frequently Asked Questions are provided for each department.
- A calendar is provided that outlines public meetings; and the agenda for those meetings can be downloaded.
- Many of the forms used in local government transactions are also provided.
As the website evolves, new features such as registering for recreation programs on line and opinions regarding certain departments will be added.
