NYSDOT to hold public hearing
for Jefferson Road Highway Project
The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) scheduled a public hearing to discuss the proposed reconstruction of Jefferson Road in the towns of Henrietta, Chili and Brighton in Monroe County.
The hearing will be held on February 11 at the Louise Slaughter Center for Integrated Manufacturing Study (CIMS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (use parking lot "T"). Displays and information tables will be staffed by DOT project staff from 3 to 7 p.m. Interested individuals, groups, local officials and agencies will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with project engineers to provide comments on the proposed project during this time. A short presentation of the project will be given at 7 p.m.
The purpose of the hearing is to formally present the planning considerations and design alternatives and to seek comments from the public, which will be considered in developing the Final Design/Environmental Assessment /4(f) Report. Based on the views and comments, and on all previous studies, the NYSDOT will select the preferred alternative for this project.
The state DOT in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration is developing design studies for the reconstruction of Jefferson Road. The 5.5 mile long project extends from the Scottsville Road (Rt. 383) intersection to the Edgewood Avenue intersection as shown on the enclosed map. The project consists of reconstruction of the highway, replacement of the Ballantyne Bridge over the Genesee River at Scottsville Road, and replacement of the Scottsville Road Bridge over Black Creek. The project includes improvements to the operation of intersections and improvements to facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians. Raised medians will be placed in some areas to reduce traffic congestion and accident occurrences.
Interested individuals who cannot attend the meetings are encouraged to send written comments and suggestions to Brian J. McMahon, NYSDOT Regional Design Engineer, 1530 Jefferson Road, Rochester, NY 14623 or electronically to pspitzer@dot.state.ny.us.
