Brockport Women's Basketball wins fifth straight
Senior Colleen Tabor (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) scored 23 points and added five assists with three steals to lead SUNY Brockport to a 73-47 SUNYAC women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles, winners of five straight, improved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in SUNYAC play. The Wildcats fell to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Tabor, the leading scorer in the conference with an average of 19 points per game, also made seven of nine free throws and had eight rebounds. This was the fourth time in only eight games that Tabor scored 20 or more points. Junior guard Jessica Welch (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) scored a season-high 18 points with six assists and junior forward Meghan Squires (Johnsonville/Hoosic Valley) also scored a season high with 14 points. Squires had a game-high 10 rebounds and recorded seven blocks.
Brockport jumped out to a 34-18 halftime lead, and held the Wildcats to 29 percent shooting on the day. The Golden Eagles also forced 24 turnovers. Jessica Skelton led the Wildcats with 20 points and seven assists along with four steals. Brockport shot 40 percent for the day (23-58) and had a 42-39 rebounding advantage. Kristen Clark (Hilton/Hilton) scored 10 points and made eight of 12 free throws.
