Dries nets two in win
Brandon Dries netted a pair of power play goals and Pat Young picked up his third shutout of the season as Brockport defeated Penfield 2-0 in high school hockey January 18.
In the first period, with the Blue Devils on the power play and with an extra attacker on the ice with an additional delayed penalty against the Patriots, Dries was able to knock a loose puck into the net at the 7:28 mark. Jarrod Miner and Colby Jones each picked up assists giving Brockport a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Devils continued to dominate, out-shooting the Patriots 21-9 after two periods, but couldn't put the puck past Penfield netminder Pat McKowne.
Late in the third period, again on the power play, Dries scored with assists from Craig Willis and Casey Balog, giving the Blue Devils a two-goal cushion. The game finished with Brockport killing off a 5-on-3 opportunity for the last :45 preserving Young's shutout.
"They just play a different style than we're used to," said Dries after the game. "The second goal was a bit of relief. It was frustrating - they just got the puck out of the zone and we're to a more open style, but it's good to see different style teams at the end of the season before the playoffs."
Brockport improved their record to 14-2-1 this season and were in first place in the Monroe County High School Hockey League's White Division.
