Gates Historic Preservation Commission seeks member

The Gates Historic Preservation Commission invites Gates residents with an interest in history and/or background in architecture or archeology to apply for a current vacancy on the commission.

The commission is a five member creation of the Gates Town Board and empowered to make recommendations to the town board regarding the town's Historic Preservation Ordinance passed in 2000. The commission is an official part of the Town of Gates government, not to be confused with the educational Gates Historical Society. The commission works with the society and individuals in the town interested in having their historic homes designated as local landmarks.

The commission meets once a month on the 4th Monday of the month in the Gates Town Hall Conference Room from 7 to 9 p.m. Commission members are: Jean Kohlhoff, chairperson; Susan Swanton, secretary, Bill Harrington and Mark Klock. Commission members are appointed by the Gates Town Board.

Interested Gates residents should write a letter of interest which includes their background and reasons for interest in serving on the commission to the attention of Ralph Esposito, Town Supervisor, Gates Town Hall, 1605 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624 before February 17. For questions about the role of the commission, ask any commission member or visit the Town of Gates' web site, www.townofgates.org and follow links to Gates history.
