C-C poster winner advances to state competition
Churchville-Chili art teachers Jane Betrus and Gretchen Foehner know the importance of fostering artistic talents. Over 450 students from the Intermediate School and Junior High School submitted artwork to a local poster competition sponsored by the Churchville Lions Club.
Megan Specksgoor, a sixth-grader at the Intermediate School, and Devin Flood, an eighth-grader at the Junior High, each won first place in this local competition, and advanced to the round two regional competition. Devin's poster placed first in the regional competition and will advance to the state competition. Devin was recognized by Neil Newman, president of the Churchville Lions, and presented with a $100 savings bond and certificate. Newman also recognized Megan Specksgoor, presenting her with a $50 savings bond and certificate.
Winners of the state competition will be chosen at the New York State Lions Convention to be held in Buffalo during the first week of May. The state finalist will advance to international competition. At this convention, all of the local and regional entries will be displayed.
