Placito scores 18 in Ranger loss
Eighteenth seeded Brighton outscored the Rangers 33-23 in the second half and defeated 19th ranked Spencerport 53-48 in Monroe County Tournament boy's basketball action February 10.
The Rangers led at half-time 25-20, thanks to Mike Placito and Mike Palermo each scoring five points in the second quarter, and increased the lead to seven points on Placito lay-up to start the second half, but the Rangers offense floundered after that. The Barons scored 18 of the next 25 points, taking the lead with less than four minutes left in the third.
In the fourth quarter, the Rangers closed to within three points on Matt Miller's two free throws in the opening minutes, but that was as close as they would get. "We struggled in the second half and (Brighton's Chris) O'Rourke was the key," said Spencerport head coach Josh Harter. "We had a couple of players in foul trouble in the second half, which put us in a position we didn't want to be in." The Rangers managed just 23 points in the second half.
The Barons O'Rourke led all scorers with 26 points, including five three-pointers. Placito led the Rangers with 18 points. Miller was also in double figures with 12 while Alex Kilroy scored eight and Palermo added six. Spencerport's record is 1-18 with the loss.
