Saints point toward next year
Churchville-Chili lost their first round Monroe County Tournament boy's basketball game to Webster Schroeder 71-48 and no victories this season, but the Saints won the fourth quarter 27-11 with a court filled with players back for next season.
Down 60-21 after the third quarter, head coach Sean Jessup rotated three juniors, two sophomores and only one senior into the line-up and got the results he was looking for. Sophomore John Magliocca, called up from junior varsity, scored nine consecutive points for the Saints to start the fourth quarter and thirteen points in the game to lead the Saints in scoring. Senior Andy Laughlin scored all eight of his points in the final stanza. Sophomore Tom Hammel scored three points and junior Mike Mertz hit a three-pointer - all in the fourth quarter while Jim Mertz and Brad Pressler handled the ball. Junior Chris Shekell played the game with a bad ankle, but still managed to score six points in the game.
"We have a good group of players back for next year and, even though this was a trying year for all of us, I'm looking forward to having these underclassmen back next season," said Jessup.
