Ogden town board appoints constable
The Ogden Town Board appointed Arthur Gary Zimmer constable for the Town of Ogden at their meeting, February 26. The appointment is effective immediately. The constable is responsible for serving papers when a judgment is rendered in small claims court. Through court action, clients may be referred to him.
This appointment was necessary because marshals in Monroe County, previously entrusted with this responsibility, are scaling down their work in small towns, according to town officials. Zimmer is also the constable for other communities on the west side. According to Supervisor Gay Lenhard, Ogden needed to legally appoint someone to perform this function. The position is not paid, however, the constable receives a percentage of what is collected.
Zimmer is a former Brockport police chief.
