SUNY Brockport women's basketball loses in close match
The Geneseo Blue Knights defeated the SUNY Brockport Women's basketball team 63-53 in the team's third meeting of the season. This was the final game of the regular season for both teams. With the win, Geneseo improved to 19-6, 15-1 in the SUNYAC, while Brockport falls to 18-7, 12-4 in the conference.
Tara Snavlin (Mendon/Honeoye Falls-Lima) sank four three-pointers in the first half to lead Geneseo with 12 points. She finished with a team high 15 points and also had three steals in the win.
Geneseo led 40-25 after the first half but Brockport senior Kristen Clark (Hilton/Hilton) made four straight layups for the Golden Eagles, leading a 10-4 run to open the second half and to bring Brockport within seven points, 42-35. The Blue Knights maintained a lead throughout the entire game but led by just five points, 56-51, with 3:06 remaining. Two layups made by Becky Rice (Perry/Perry) in the final minutes helped seal the victory for Geneseo.
Clark led Brockport with 20 points also pulling in seven rebounds. Brockport's Colleen Tabor (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) had a game high 10 rebounds and also had six assists for the Golden Eagles. Brockport junior Meghan Squires (Johnsonville/Hoosic Valley) was the only other Brockport player to score in double-digits with 11 points. Geneseo out rebounded Brockport 35-30. The Blue Knights shot 51 percent from the field in the first half and 43 percent for the game while the Golden Eagles were just 39 percent in the first and 41 percent for the game.
Geneseo and Brockport will both be hosting first round games in the SUNYAC Championship Tournament which began February 25.
