Thirteen Churchville-Chili (C-C) Junior High school students competed in the regional Science Olympiad at St. John Fisher College. These students were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments at this competition. C-C students prove science skills

A team of thirteen Churchville-Chili (C-C) Junior High School students competed in the regional Science Olympiad at St. John Fisher College on February 8. Students Ryan Burakowski, Nicole Campbell, Marc Hartwig, Cody Hewitt, Brian Kelvie, Kristy Klein, Julie Leyland, Jessica Mix, Colin Noble, Amanda Padgett, Julie Presler, James Williamson, Matt Lengen and Andrea Morabito represented C-C Junior High School.

Placing ninth out of 25 teams, these students competed against 25 other teams from schools throughout Monroe and surrounding counties. Science teachers, Joe Pencille and Dr. Peter Spacher coach this team made up of seventh, eighth and ninth graders.

Nicole Campbell and Julie Pressler placed first in the balloon race competition. In this race, students demonstrated the use of balance, understanding the concept of density, make careful measurements and use good construction skills.

The Science Olympiad is an organization devoted to improving the quality of science education. Students and teachers work together to accomplish specific science, math and technology goals determined by the competition guidelines.

"The Science Olympiad tournament is a celebration of our team's accomplishments. Our team demonstrated their understanding and mastery of science, math and technology and also proved their problem solving skills by working together as a team," said Spacher.
