named GCCs commencement speaker
State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King has been named the 2003 Commencement Speaker at Genesee Community College, President Stuart Steiner has announced.
Chancellor King - the chief executive officer of the state university system - accepted an invitation to serve as commencement speaker from the colleges Board of Trustees during his visit to Genesee last fall.
Commencement exercises are scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at 1 p.m. in the Batavia Campus Gymnasium. More than 2,000 guests are expected to honor 700+ Genesee graduates. The 2003 commencement ceremony will be especially meaningful, Dr. Steiner told the Board of Trustees. This year, Genesee will celebrate its 35th annual commencement ceremony and honor its 15,000th graduate as well as confer its first honorary doctoral degree. The honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree will be awarded to Alexander resident Charlotte W. Conable.
