Christine Balonek, daughter of James Balonek and a senior at Byron-Bergen High School, was selected as a University of Buffalo Distinguished Honors Scholar. Fewer than 25 of more than 15,000 students who apply for admission to UB's Class of 2007 have been chosen to receive these scholarships. A Distinguished Honors Scholarship covers tuition, room and board, books, fees and other costs for four years of undergraduate work. Balonek will study chemical engineering at the University of Buffalo.


Abby R. Curatolo, Spencerport, a junior at SUNY Oswego, will be included in the 2003 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." She will be honored at a campus reception April 23.

Curatolo is studying journalism at Oswego. She is the daughter of Shirley and Sebastian Curatolo of Sheldon Drive, Spencerport.


David Kent, Spencerport, a sophomore, has been placed on the dean's commendation list for outstanding academic achievement in the fall 2002 term at Gettysburg College.

Students with a quality point average of 3.33 or higher for a semester's work are placed on the dean's commendation list.


SUNY Geneseo announces the following December 2002 graduates.

SUNY Geneseo has named the following students to the dean's list for the 2002 fall semester.

In order to qualify, students had to carry at least 12 credit hours, maintain a 3.4 grade-point average (GPA) out of 4.0, and have no "D," "E," or incomplete grades. The president's list requires a 4.0 GPA.


Ithaca College recently named the following students to the Ithaca College dean's list for the fall 2002 semester.

Matthew Montanaro, Rochester, has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society and was individually honored during a campus ceremony. Golden Key International Honour Society is a non-profit, academic honors organization that provides academic recognition, leadership opportunities, community service, career networking and scholarships.


The National Society of High School Scholars has selected Brendan Gaesser of Kendall for membership. The society inducts the most outstanding high school students nationally and honors them for superior academic achievement. Membership is by invitation only, extended by Claes Nobel.

Claes Nobel, honorary chairman of the society, is the senior member of the Nobel Prize family and extends his family's dedication to excellence to the youth of today. Claes' family established the Nobel Prizes in 1901 in order to note outstanding contributions in the fields of peace, literature, medicine, chemistry, and physics.


Allison E. Roether, daughter of Jerald and Sandra Roether of Churchville, was inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society. She is a business major at SUNY Geneseo. Only the top fifteen percent of college juniors and seniors are eligible for membership.


Stephanie E. Schmitt, Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for the 2002 fall semester at Connecticut College. Schmitt achieved dean's honors, which recognize students who have received a grade point average of 3.3-3.69.


Thomas Paolini, the son of Samuel and Diane Paolini of Fiesta Road, and a student at Hamilton College, began the 2003 spring season as a member of the Hamilton Men's golf team. Paolini, a senior majoring in government at Hamilton, is a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall.


Ellen MacWilliam, has been inducted into The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Vocational Technical Honor Society. MacWilliam is the daughter of Jim and Sandy MacWilliam, Sheldon Terrace, Spencerport. She is a 2000 graduate of Spencerport High School.


William G. Ayala, son of Louella and Kyle Docteur of Bergen, was named to the dean's list as a Stillman School of Business student at Seton Hall University for the fall 2002 semester.


Sandra K. Small, daughter of Jeffrey and Kathryn Small, Chili, has been named to the fall 2002 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Small, a junior, is a biology and education major and a service scholar.

She is a 2000 graduate of Aquinas Institute.


Syracuse University announces the following seniors have been selected to receive an award as part of the University's Senior Scholarship Program for the 2002-03 academic year. The Senior Scholarship Program at Syracuse University recognizes outstanding students in their final year at the university. To be eligible for a Senior Scholarship, students must consistently attain dean's list status during their first three years at Syracuse.

  • Sarah Dewey, Griswold Road, Byron, is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences and S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and received the Robert H. McCaffrey Scholarship. oErin Rich, Churchville, is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences and received the William P. Tolley Scholarship.
  • Rebecca Mesh, Haskins Lane North, Hilton, is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, received the David C. Ashkar Scholarship.
  • Beth Laskoski, Belvedere Drive, Rochester, a senior in the School of Management and S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, received the David and Fannie Rutty Scholarship.
  • Michelle Ley, Stony Point Road, Rochester, is a senior in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and College of Visual and Performing Arts and received the David and Fannie Rutty Scholarship.

State University of New York College at Fredonia named the following students to the dean's list for the fall 2002 semester. Dean's list students have earned a grade point average of at least 3.30 or higher for that semester out of a possible 4.0 while carrying a full-time minimum course load of at least 12 credit hours.

Janet Campbell, Associate Broker with Nothnagle Realtors Spencerport Office, received an award for placing in Nothnagle's Top 25 Club. This is her first time as a recipient of this award. She had a total of 7.5 million dollars in closed sales for the year 2002.

Campbell has been in real estate since 1986 and specializes in residential home sales and new construction. She represents ENF Builders, Ed and Mike Fuierer in custom built homes in several subdivisions including a new one with 33 homesites in Taylor Farms, Churchville which will start construction in the spring, plus another subdivision in Sweden (Northview Subdivision) that will start in fall.

Campbell is a life-long resident of the Ogden area along with husband, Dave, and their two sons, Michael and Tim.


Associates Jack Rosati and Carla Rosati have joined Re/Max First with 26 years of combined experience, specializing in residential real estate as well as new home sales and relocation. Both Carla and Jack are members of the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors®, the New York State Association of Realtors®, and the National Association of Realtors®.


Navy Seaman Apprentice James F. Camp Jr., son of Pam and James F. Camp of Hilton, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.

Camp is a 2000 graduate of Brockport High School.


Navy Seaman Michelle R. Robinson, daughter of Vickie L. Robinson of Lyndonville, and Michael F. Robinson of Hilton, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.
