Interim Pastor at Chili Presbyterian Church
Starting, April 1, the Reverend Michael Capron will be the Interim Pastor of Chili Presbyterian Church, 3600 Chili Avenue in Chili. Rev. Capron comes from the First Presbyterian Church in Williamson, NY. His first worship service in Chili will be Sunday, April 6 at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with a "Pot Luck Luncheon" following the second service.
Rev. Capron grew up in Wayland, NY. His father worked in the local bank and his mother was a homemaker. He moved to Rochester to 1981 to attend RIT and received his bachelor of science in computer science. For seven of those years, he did contract programming at Kodak, Xerox and other places, then worked directly for Xerox for two years.
Around the end of May 1993 he became consciously aware that he was no longer deriving the pleasure from his work that he once had, according to a church spokesperson. On October 10, 1993, at a worship service at Perinton Presbyterian Church, he said "Yes, I'm going to do it; I'll go to seminary and study to become a minister." He moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Columbia Theological Seminary, one of the Presbyterian seminaries, and graduated in May 1998. Rev. Capron was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament on July 19, 1998.
Rev. Capron has been prepared for church ministry through his experiences as a church intern in Nashville, Tennessee, and his travels to the Middle East and Central America. He has ministered to people in emergency rooms, nursing homes and a psychiatric unit around issues of tragedy, loss, frustration and addiction. In an inner city ministry, he sat at a picnic table with homeless people, eating and studying the Bible with them.
He is married to Rev. Lynn Rubier-Capron of Dewey Avenue Presbyterian Church. He will be with the church during the transition to a new pastor.
