Jars of Clay coming to SUNY Brockport
Brockport Student Government has announced that Grammy Award-winning Contemporary Christian band Jars of Clay will perform Sunday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in the Tuttle South Gym, on the campus of SUNY Brockport.
Jars of Clay began at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois, when four young men met and discovered friendship through music. They were majors in "Contemporary Christian Music." Band members Charlie Lowell (Keyboard) and Matt Odmark (Guitar) are from the Rochester area (Gates-Chili), and Road Manager Joey Ciccoline is from Brockport.
Lowell recalled a Bible verse he had read which included the phrase "Jars of Clay" (2 Corinthians 4:7), and in January of 1994, Jars of Clay was born.
Jars of Clay's Christian acoustic pop first caused a stir in the religious music industry in 1994, when the group won a nationwide talent contest. The group submitted a demo tape to the Gospel Music Association and was invited to participate in the Spotlight '94 talent competition. Jars of Clay took first place and began their major-label courtship.
The ensuing years have brought them Grammy Awards, Dove Awards, and worldwide acclaim. Their music also has secular appeal, as witnessed by the success of their debut album in 1996. The single "Flood" hit the #1 position on numerous secular radio stations. Their latest album, The Eleventh Hour, debuted at number one on the Christian Detail Chart and entered the Billboard chart at number 30.
Tickets for SUNY Brockport students are $10. Tickets for the general public are $15. For information call the BSG Box Office at (585) 395-2487.
