Bugs and more bugs
When asked how many different insects there are, Jonah Farnum, a second grader at Fairbanks Road School, answered, "A bizillion!" Bob Iveson, Operations Manager for Ward's Natural Science Establishment responded, "The world has millions of species of plant and animals and thousands upon thousands of insect species." Iveson visited Fairbanks Road School as part of the BOCES Project ADEPT (A Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented). During the workshop students learned insect classification and life cycles, and viewed live specimens. As Iveson walked around the classroom, he showed this group of students a live hissing cockroach contained in a jar.
