Martial arts team places in tourney

A team from the International Federation of Karate (IFK Kyokushin) participated in the Mas Oyama World Cup Karate Tournament held in Montreal, Canada March 8. Teams competed in Kata, point fighting, full contact fighting with pads and knockdown fighting (full contact Karate without pads).

Local team members were from S & S Fitness Gym and Martial Arts Center in Hamlin and the Kyokushin Karate Fitness USA in Rochester.

Those placing were: Steven Olick - first place Kata; Charlynne Olick - second place - fighting; Scott Haug, Jr. - second place Kata and fighting; Bethany Gill - second place Kata and first place fighting; Jim Krygier - first place in full contact heavy weight division; Scott Haug - second place in the Knockdown middleweight division.

Honorable mentions were presented to Phil Plummer and Glen Goff. Sempai Rene Cruz of Rochester was team coach.
