BUM Players to present "Madwoman of Chaillot"
The BUM Players, a community theater group, takes the stage for the seventh year in a row. After last year's huge success with Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple," the cast and crew are rehearsing "The Madwoman of Chaillot." The 1940s dark comedy was written by Jean Giraudoux and has been adapted by John "Mack" McCarthy, the show's director.
In what has become a popular tradition with the BUM Players, desserts will be served during intermission. They are included in the price of admission ($7-general; $5 for seniors, 65 and over; and no more than $12 for a family). The show dates are April 24, 25, 26 at 7:30 p.m. and April 27 at 2 p.m.) at the Fellowship Hall at Brockport United Methodist Church.
Believing that there is a large oil deposit beneath the city of Paris, the greedy money men of the region are determined to add to their coffers by scheming to find a way to excavate the city to get at this oil. Fearing that this would lead to the "end of free enterprise in this world," the Countess Aurelia, the Madwoman of Chaillot (pronounced "shy-oh"), cooks up a mad plan, along with two of her madwomen friends and an "extraordinary convocation of vagabonds," to foil their greedy plans and finding "a way of getting rid of them forever." This paves the way for a madcap, often hilarious evening for the audience.
The cast includes BUM Player veterans Bonnie and Ron Beiswenger, Charles Edwards, Debbie Karnitz, Paul Kimball, Dan and Dave Odrzywolski, and Turk Thomas, as well as newscomers Mary Ann Rutkowski, Ryan Turco and Sadie Wilson. Terry Marsham is the play's Producer/Assistant Director and Debbie Thomas and Cheryl Codori are coordinating the wonderful desserts.
The Brockport United Methodist Church is on the corner of Main and Erie Streets in Brockport. (Use the Erie Street entrance). For tickets call Terry Marsham (637-0758) or the church office (637-4240; 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Friday).
