Noone Post 954
and Auxiliary
select boys and girls state representatives

The Harvey C. Noone Post 954, its Past Commanders Club and the Auxiliary Unit are strong supporters of community youth programs. One of the premier endeavors of the 954 family is its participation in the New York State American Legion Boys and Girls State programs. These are five day programs held at Morrisville College (boys) and Utica College (girls) in July each year. The prime objective of these programs is to teach youth "how government should function."

The representatives to these programs are selected by Legion Posts and Auxiliary Units across the entire state of New York. The attendees elect a full slate of officials from governor on down and then, in a hands-on, mock program, function as a governing body for five days. In addition, they are trained in the values of patriotism, mutual respect of others and their opinions, discipline, leadership skills and respect for God and country.

A select group of Post members (boys) and Auxiliary (girls) interview the candidates and choose the representatives, taking into consideration character, academics, leadership, discipline and respect for the nation and its freedoms. All of the candidates interviewed are juniors at the Churchville Chili Central School.

The Post and PCC is sponsoring three representatives to Boys State: David Stafford, Brenton Yockel and Joseph Eisenhauer. Additionally, Law Enforcement Post 1182 will pick up sponsorship of Ryan Dooling who was selected for them by the Noone interviewers. The Auxiliary selected Sabrina Kenfield as their representative to Girls State. All of the expenses for the selected representatives are picked up by the sponsors.

The interviewers were really challenged in their selection process since all the candidates were exceptional, according to those charged with the task. Churchville-Chili Guidance Counselor Marjorie Boudens aided in setting up the time, place, and names to be interviewed.
