Parma Archers compete

A new offering in the Hilton-Parma Recreation program schedule, target archery for adults, began in the fall of 2002. Bert Marlatt, a former professional archer with nearly 40 years of experience, led the formation of the Parma Archers. Using recurve bows furnished by the recreation department, the Parma Archers have several members that meet once a week for exercise and a chance to improve their skills. They shoot outdoors at the Parma Town Hall and indoors at Creekwood Archery.

On March 23, members George Blickwede and Glenn Spiroff, along with their coach, Bert Marlatt, went to Seneca Falls to compete against 500 other archers in the New York State Indoor Archery Championship. Blickwede was awarded first place in his class, while Spiroff shot very well, narrowly eluding a medal.

The Parma Archers continue to add members and will offer a target archery program later this spring. Plans also include competing in the Senior Games to be held in Cortland in June 2003.
