Cyclists to share Spanish journey
Cycling the Pilgrims' Route Through Spain was the experience of three Brockport State College professors in 2002. They will talk about their journey at the Morgan-Manning House, 151 Main Street, Brockport, Wednesday, April 30. The program starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served.
Margaret Blackman is professor of Anthropology. Marilyn Colby is a retired assistant professor in the Department of Physical Education. Elaine Miller is associate professor of Spanish and also teaches in Women's Studies.
The slide presentation will cover the biking trip on the Camino de Santiago, a medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, where the relics and remains of the apostle St. James are said to be buried. Commentary will cover the history and significance of the pilgrimage, the culture of northern Spain, and biking the camino.
Blackman has been cycling since 1985 mostly on back roads in western New York. She has been doing the MS 150K annual bike tour for the last 10 years. Colby started long distance biking in 1987 and has been on biking tours in nine countries and about the same number of tours through the United States. Miller began long distance biking in 1987. She toured northern Italy with the other two bikers in 2001, and recently cycled across the United States to commemorate her 60th birthday.
