Event to benefit Torry Yahn Research Study
The fifth annual Torry Yahn Chicken Barbecue and Benefit Auction is set for Sunday, June 8. Beginning at 1 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Churchville, the event's proceeds will go to the Torry Yahn Research Study through the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation Inc.
Donald and Joann Yahn, parents of Torry, have committed themselves to helping families who have loved ones stricken with aplastic anemia. According to the Yahns $80,000 has been raised at past barbecues to enable medical research find a prevention, treatment and cure for this disease, and one hundred percent of donations go directly into research.
The foundation's fall newsletter states that it was Torry's wish to be remembered to "...support medical research to help patients suffering from bone marrow diseases ..." This year's barbecue will honor Torry, Brianna Johnson and Ashlee Tellie, all who succumbed to the disease.
