Community projects proposed for area towns
Upcoming community project proposals were announced by Monroe County Legislator Wayne Zyra (R-Sweden) for the towns of Clarkson and Hamlin. These proposed projects are on a list Monroe County will submit for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
Supported by Clarkson Town Supervisor Paul M. Kimball, the proposed ADA improvements at the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center will construct an ADA accessible parking area with parking spaces and curbing that will extend from the facility access road to the front of the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center. This project affects the residents of the Town of Clarkson, Town of Sweden and the Village of Brockport who participate in recreational, educational and health-related programs at the facility.
Hamlin Town Supervisor Austin F. Warner III announced his support of a proposal for a waterline project in the Town of Hamlin, which will connect and loop existing waterlines. It will enable the installation of fire hydrants on the existing main, resulting in increased water pressure and better water quality and quantity.
Installation of the 8" waterline will bore under the Lake Ontario State Parkway at Walker Lake Ontario Road in the Town of Hamlin. The project will serve the needs of lower income persons and elderly residents in the area.
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the Community Development Block Grant, which Monroe County has distributed to participating towns since 1973. Funds are used for projects to benefit lower income families, elderly and disabled residents. The federally funded program will provide $50,000 to the Town of Clarkson as part of its Community Center ADA Improvements program and $50,000 to the Town of Hamlin as part of its waterline program.
The Monroe County Legislature is expected to vote on the proposal at its June 10 Legislature meeting. The county is seeking public comment on the project from Wednesday, April 16 until Friday, May 16. Written comments can be directed to the Office of Community Development, Monroe County Department of Planning & Development, 8100 City Place, 50 West Main Street, Rochester, NY 14614. Comments must be received by May 16.
