Thread and fabric arts displayed

The craftsmanship of thread and fabric arts will be displayed and demonstrated at the Rochester Museum and Science Center's Artistry in Thread Festival, Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Eisenhart Auditorium, 657 East Avenue, Rochester. Organized by the RMSC Women's Council, this event will highlight quilting, weaving, embroidery, beading, crewel, lacemaking and more.

Each day will feature two lecture/demonstrations by thread artists, such as Veronica Reitter, from Native American Beading of the Iroquois Federation, and Rosemary Disney, a designer of handbags and silk evening jackets.

Included will be rarely displayed items from the RMSC collection, such as the LeMoyne Star quilt made by fifteen-year-old Susan B. Anthony. Strolling models will wear creations featuring thread artistry.

Admission is $10 each day or $15 for a two-day pass. Children under 12 years of age are free. For information call 585-342-9853 or www.rmsc.org and click on Women's Council.
