The single-lane Gallup Road bridge spanning the Erie Canal in Ogden will remain under construction and closed to traffic through the end of May. The bridge work was anticipated to be completed in April prior to the filling of the Erie Canal and the closure of Washington Street Lift Bridge in Adams Basin on May 5.

"Plans originally called to work on Gallup Road last summer," Kevin O'Buckley, regional construction engineer said. "However, with the Washington Street closure, it made sense to do the work over the winter months and minimize the inconvenience to the community. Despite attempts to finish in April, we discovered additional steel replacement needs and experienced prolonged inclement weather. We are working as fast as we can to reopen the structure to vehicular traffic."

The nearest canal crossings are Trimmer Road to the east and Sweden Walker Road to the west.
