RPYO performs at Roberts Wesleyan May 18
The RPYO's final concert of this 2002-2003 season, scheduled for Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. at Roberts Wesleyan College is a showcase of the talents of the Youth Orchestra musicians. David Harman, RPYO Music Director, will conduct the orchestra during the concert's first half in concerto performances by these Concerto Competition Winners including:
David Shewan, a four year member of the RPYO and currently RPYO principal horn, a senior at Churchville-Chili High School. For the past three years he has studied with Dietrich Hemann, Principal Horn of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. At Churchville-Chili Senior High School, he is an active member of many musical groups, including the Concert Choir, Swinging Saints Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble. He is also a former member of the Bach Children's Choir.
Belonging to a musical family, David has frequently performed on recitals with his father Paul, a trumpet player, and two of his siblings, Emily and Aaron, who are past and present members of the RPYO horn section. With his family he has spent many summers at the Csehy School of Music near Philadelphia.
David has participated in many NYSSMA Solo Competitions, earning him placement into All-County, Area All-State and Conference All-State Band and Orchestral ensembles. He is also the 2003 winner of the Rochester Philharmonic League's John and Emily Castle Instrumental Scholarship.
At his school, David is a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Tennis Team. In addition to music he enjoys internet chess, Bible quizzing with his church youth group, Civil War trivia, and riding and designing rollercoasters.
He will attend Roberts Wesleyan College in the fall with a major in music education.
