Spencerport School receives grant for plants
Bernabi and Canal View Elementary Schools have received a $500 grant to replant greenery that was removed as part of the construction project. Sam's Club on Ridge Road presented the grant to Bernabi teacher Jerry Virzi and a group of students on April 22, Earth Day.
The project, called A Partnership with Nature, includes the creation of a butterfly garden and other landscaping that creates habitats for animals and birds. It will be located in the new parent drop-off loop between Bernabi and Canal View.
Cardinal Landscape will donate time and expertise to work with students and staff on the landscaping, which will serve as a learning area for various curriculum areas at different grade levels. In addition, Pat Brown, the nurse at Taylor Elementary School, applied to the state for free packets of plants. And a high school student is helping out to fulfill his requirement for community service for his Eagle Scout badge.
