Army Staff Sgt. Kenneth W. DeMars has been named Space and Missile Defense Command European Region noncommissioned officer of the year.

DeMars is a senior satellite communication systems operator-maintainer assigned to the 1st Satellite Control Battalion, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany. He is the son of Kenneth W. and Joanne C. DeMars of Pear Street, Springfield, Massachusetts. His wife, Emma, is the daughter of Gordon and Diana A. Hendershot of Hilton.

Army Pfc. Jillian A. Emerson has graduated from the food service specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Virginia.

Emerson's parents are Charles and Maureen Emerson of Union Street, North Chili. She graduated from Churchville-Chili Senior High School, in 2002 and has received an associate degree from Monroe Community College.

Air Force Airman Meriemil A. Vargas has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Meriemil Vargas of Union Street, North Chili and niece of Sandra Santiago of Norton Street, Rochester.
