Hilton Schools' projected tax rate increases 4.88 percent
On Tuesday, June 3, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Hilton School District residents will go to the polls to vote on two propositions: the 2003-04 Budget Proposal in the amount of $47,997,019; and a bus purchase proposition in the amount of $632,200 for six 66-passenger buses; two 18-passenger buses; and four seven-passenger vans.
The Board of Education approved the $48 million Budget Proposal at its April 8 meeting. Changes in the revenue projections following actions by the State Legislature have changed the tax rate projection.
"The successful override of the Governor's vetoes by the Legislature has resulted in the restoration of a significant portion of the Governor's proposed cuts in state aid for the Hilton School District. Substantially all additional revenues to be received have been applied against the projected tax levy. As a result, the tax impact of the proposed 2003-04 budget has changed from the original projected tax increase of 7.49% to new projected increase of 4.88 percent," Assistant Superintendent for Business Steven Ayers said. "We work closely with our legislative representatives in helping them to understand the potential impacts of the original state budget proposal. We appreciate all that they have done to respond to those concerns."
