Five at SUNY Brockport receive
Chancellor's Awards for Excellence
Five members of the State University of New York College at Brockport faculty have been recognized for outstanding job performance with a Chancellor's Award for Excellence.
Established in 1970, the Chancellor's Award was created to honor distinguished performance within the State University of New York system. This was the first year the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship was given. Each award winner received an inscribed certificate and a cast bronze medallion. Members of the SUNY College at Brockport faculty and staff recognized this year include:
Three faculty members honored with the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Jeff Streiter, PhD., associate professor, Department of Business Administration and Economics. Dr. Streiter's research and teaching is focused on marketing and management. He joined the SUNY Brockport faculty in 1983 and earned his PhD from Syracuse University.
Susan R. Seem, PhD, associate professor, Department of Counselor Education. Dr. Seem's current research and teaching interests are in the areas of diversity, especially those of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and counselor supervision. She also serves the SUNY Brockport Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs as a counselor, providing both individual and group counseling. She received her PhD in counseling psychology from Pennsylvania State University and joined the SUNY Brockport faculty in 1994.
J. Roger Kurtz, PhD, associate professor, Department of English. Dr. Kurtz's research and teaching focuses on African literature in an effort to broaden understanding and appreciation of non-western literatures, and cultures. He's known as a demanding teacher who sets high standards and expectations. He joined the SUNY Brockport faculty in 1997 and received his PhD from the University of Iowa.
The Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity was presented to William Stier, Jr., EdD, professor, Department of Physical Education and Sport. Dr. Stier is considered to be one of the top two or three scholars and researchers in the world in the field of sports management. He is the author of 14 scholarly books and one CD and scores of journal articles and is the editor of two scholarly journals. He is a past recipient of SUNY's Distinguished Service Professor designation. He was twice named Researcher of the Year by the New York State Alliance for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance. Dr. Stier joined the SUNY Brockport faculty in 1983. He earned his EdD from the University of South Dakota.
The Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service was presented to Louis Spiro, assistant vice president, Office of Finance and Management. Lou Spiro has been a role model for the "consummate professional" in the variety of critical positions he's occupied during his 22 years at SUNY Brockport. He's a critical member of the college's financial management team, having developed the process to project future financial conditions and develop effective responses at the college.
