Parma Public Library summer
story hours and special shows scheduled
The Parma Library will be offering a full range of programs for children of all ages this summer. Pre-school story hours for children 3-1/2-5 years old are a blend of stories, songs, games, films and fun. Sessions will be held on Mondays or Tuesdays from 10:15-11:15 a.m. The first and second grade story hour (for children entering these grades) is held on Monday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It features stories, songs, games, crafts, and fun. For children going into 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades, Readers' Club meets on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 (or 3) p.m. Whether journeying to Ancient Egypt or sailing on the R.M.S. Titanic this program blends books - new and old, strange places, new and old films and crafts.
This summer, the Parma Public Library is participating in two special Reading Contests. The UPS-Buffalo Bills Reading Program runs from July 1 to July 31. Entrants score a chance to win tickets to a Buffalo Bills home game. Contestants will need to fill out a scorecard for each book they read at their reading level and drop it in the ballot box at the library. The "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" Reading Contest is sponsored by Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP and runs from May 1 to July 25. Children in grades 4-8 are eligible to submit an entry form for every book read from May 1 to July 25. The county wide grand prize will be the opportunity to throw out the First Pitch at a Red Wings Game on Tuesday, August 12 plus tickets for 6 to that game, plus dinner for six at Jillian's Restaurant, plus limousine service for a group to and from Jillian's and the baseball game. One runner-up prize of two tickets to the August 12 Red Wings game will also be awarded at each county library.
Family Reading Night is a program for the whole family. Turn off the TV and radio for an hour or two and enjoy a good book with the whole family. Pick up a family reading log at the library and record library visits and books read. Special rewards include, but are not limited to, sharing the joy of reading, Bruegger's bagels and more.
Registration is required for each of the programs and may be done in person or by calling the library at 392-8350. All story hours start the week of July 7 and run through the week of August 18.
The library has booked a wide range of talent for its Visiting Artist Programs this summer.
