A gorge-ous day
for rock collecting
Holley fifth-grader Aaron Ashbury examines a rock with teacher Melanie Montague while they explore the science of the earth's foundation. The BOCES 2 Project ADEPT (A Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented) workshop gave students the opportunity to delve into the stories told by rocks found along the Genesee River. Eugene Gartland, assistant professor at SUNY Brockport's Educational Opportunity Center, took students down the Genesee River gorge, where they studied sedimentary rocks, glacial features, and fossils from the Paleozoic period.
