Trying art on for size
Artist Maura Allen shows a Holley fifth-grade art class a colorful painting she created using wax and paint - a process called batik. Ms. Allen visited Mimi Reyngoudt's classroom to demonstrate batik while she described the culture and history of Indonesia, which is where the process originated. Students also had an opportunity to try on the many beautiful batik fabrics Allen brought back from Indonesia, where she studied textile design. The Young Audiences of Rochester program in Holley marked the beginning of Allen's retirement after 40 years of teaching art. Shown are (clockwise): Eric Coleman, Eric David, Leonard Jamieson, Taylor Crist and Houston Draper.
