Oldest lady
of New York state dies

Emma Stark, former resident of Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, Brockport, died on June 1, 2003 at the age of 110. Emma held the record of oldest woman in New York state.

She was born on January 1, 1893, in Flanders, New Jersey. She later moved with her family to Bronx, New York, where she lived for 65 years. After her husband, Frank, passed away in April of 1978, Stark lived with her oldest grandson, Frank Schrimp and his wife, Joan, in New Jersey. In 1984, they moved to Irondequoit. Emma resided for a time at St. Ann's Home. In 1996, the family relocated to Brockport, and Stark enjoyed the last years of her life at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center. The Care Center staff will miss Emma's stories and singing, especially her rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."

Stark has three grandsons; nine great grandchildren; twelve great great grandchildren, two great great great grandchildren. One grandson lives in California. The rest of her family lives in New Jersey, Long Island and Albany.


AREA

Boulais, Gertrude, age 93, June 9, 2003, at her home. A long-time communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Bombay, NY, Mrs. Boulais was born in Granby, Quebec Canada and moved to Northern New York when her hus-band, Leopold A. Boulais, was appointed railroad station master in the hamlet. They raised four children, Gisele of Bombay; Yves (Anna) of Bombay; Pauline (Edward) Van Epps of Cranberry Lake, NY; Evelyn (Philip) Dow of Spencerport, all surviving. Ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Boulais enjoyed her work as a public school library clerk. A woman of many talents, she was an expert seamstress; an artist in oils early in her life, painting mainly pastoral scenes which decorate the family home; a gifted cook and she enjoyed fishing.

Funeral Services were held June 14 at St. Joseph's Church in Bombay; interment in the church's cemetery. ALBION

•Ettinger, William I., age 77, of South Clinton Street, died June 11, 2003 at Lakeside Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was born January 8, 1926 in Beavertown, Pennsylvania, the son of Newton Ettinger and Bertha (Shawver) Ettinger. William had lived in this area from 1965 to 1984, returning here in May of this year. He had worked as a truck driver for many years with Furman's Foods of Milton, Pennsylvania. He was an avid guitarist. Predeceased by his wife, Catherine, in July of 2000. He is survived by his sons, Harry (Laurie), Marvin, Randy, Dwayne, Michael, Brian (Kaydi), Darrin (Lisa); daughters, Diana Ackerson, Audrey (Richard) Christopher, Belinda (Steven) Schultz, Suzy (Kevin) Coleman, Pamela Harding, Sheila (Steven) Falcheck; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; three sisters; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service was held June 13 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., Albion. Burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Lakeside Memorial Hospital.


BROCKPORT

Forkel, Walter G. "Dutch," June 6, 2003 at the age of 97. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Mildred; devoted nephew and niece, Stark and Marianne Olcott; several other nieces and nephews. Dutch served his country in WWII.

Funeral Services and interment were held at the convenience of the family.


•Tornow, William E., On June 6, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children Linda (Eric) Glantz, Ronald (Sue), Kim (Tim) Andrews; seven grandchild-ren, Patrick, Rachael, Jeremy, Stefanie, Christopher, Timothy and Kaylie; his sister, Betty (Ed) Smith; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held June 10 at The St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hilton. Contributions can be made to The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society in his memory.


CHURCHVILLE

•Geraci, Carmel, June 5, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband, John "Patsy" Geraci. She is survived by her son Vincent (Joan) Gerace of Greece; her daughter Mary Ann (James) Fitzsimmons of Churchville; her beloved nephew Carl (Ellen) Facciponte; her grandchildren, Susan (Joseph) Stephany, Steven (Debbie) Gerace, Douglas Gerace, Lynn (James) Gaylord, Carol (James) Sauer, John Fitzsimmons and Patricia (Chris) Purcell; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was a retiree of Eastman Kodak and was a member of the "Young at Heart" group at Holy Family Church.

A Funeral Mass was said June 9 at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Churchville. Interment St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery. Contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice in her memory.


•Thurley, Hilda G., June 5, 2003 at age 89. She was predeceased by her husband, James Thurley. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Elsie Palmer, Clyde Thurley, Eleanor Hall, Jean Jones, Glenn Neal, Nelson Neal, Opal Embling, Gertrude Embling and many great and great great nieces and nephews. Hilda was the "Avon Lady" for 31 years.

Funeral Services were held June 10 at the Walker Brothers Co. Funeral Home Inc., Churchville. Interment Riga Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association or to a charity of one's choice in her memory.


HILTON

•Boller, Russell S., of Dade City, Florida, formerly of Hilton, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003. Mr. Boller is predeceased by his father, Dr. Russell Boller; survived by children, Scott (Yoon) Boller and Michelle Boller; grandchildren, Katie and Nathan Boller; mother, Mary N. Boller; brother, Chuck Boller; sister, Cindy (William) Stanton; nephews Greg and Tom Stanton. Mr. Boller was a retiree of Eastman Kodak.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials can be directed to The Sally Edelman and Harry Gardner Cancer Re-search Foundation.


•Northrup, Maurice A., Age 75, of Venice, Florida, died on May 26, 2003 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born on April 6, 1928 in Hilton. Mr. Northrup graduated from the Hilton Central High School and the Rochester Business Institute in Rochester. He owned the M.A. Northrup Insurance Agency in Hilton for 30 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hilton, member and past president of the Rotary Club of Hilton, past president of the New York State Association of Cooperative Fire Insurance Companies and a Board of Director of the Guilderland Reinsurance Company in Albany. He moved to Venice, Florida six years ago from Hilton. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elsie (Gallo) Northrup; two sons, Mark A. Northrup and daughter-in-law, Tannica Northrup of Lake George and David D. Northrup and daughter-in-law, Jodie Northrup of Wilmington, New York; a brother, Martin Northrup of Bonita Springs, Florida; a sister, Dwina Joy of Rochester; three loving grandchildren, Ciera R. Northrup of Saratoga, Matthew A. Northrup of Lake George, and Timothy J. Northrup of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Anthony Piedmonte of Venice, Florida. Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

•Shemski, Theodore A. "Ted," Suddenly, June 5, 2003 in Buffalo. He was predeceased by his father, George Shemski. He is survived by his mother, Gertrude Shemski; sisters, Susan (Brian) Ordway, Cynthia (Frank) Tubbs; brothers, George Jr., Casey and Joseph Shemski; two nephews, Bob and Dan Sciolino; his aunt, Dolores "Dee" Marlatt; close friend, Judy James; and several cousins.

Dorsey, Grace U., Age 45, June 4, 2003. She is survived by her daughters, Janelle Dorsey and Natasha (Arthur) Williams both of Buffalo; grandson, Arthur Raphael Williams Jr.; mother, Betty Diehl; sister, Sandra (Gary) Blosenhauer of Holley; brothers, Howard Diehl of Elma, George Diehl of Holley, Dale Diehl of Kentucky, Ronald Diehl of North Carolina and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mack, May J. "MJ," June 4, 2003 at age 62 following a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her children, Maryann Davis, Cheryl (John) Burns, Darryl (Barbara) Jebbett, Linda (Chris) Sutton and Tina (Shawn) Coston of Hobart, NY; her sisters, Ruth (Alan) Melvinj of Virginia, Sylvia (Leonard) Korn of Rochester and Nancy Gerrity of Ohio; her brother, Harry (Caryl) Jebbett of Cortland; 16 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Company and Wal-Mart, Greece.

Thousand, Beatrice R., Tuesday, June 10, 2003. She was predeceased by her husbands, Edward Brown, Percy Nesbitt and Merton Thousand. Beatrice is survived by her children Bonnie (Robert Sam) Bradley, Cheryl (Larry) Barbeto, David (Joan) Brown and Terry (Lela) Brown; her eight grandchildren Timothy (Maureen) Barbeto, Thomas (Erin) Barbeto, Pete Barbeto, Delia (Rich) Lamphire, Ralph Brown, Noah (Lindsay) Brown, Jason Brown and Jodi Brown; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Ivy League Rebecca's of Spencerport.

•Tosh, Floyd M., June 7, 2003 at age 79. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Evelyn B. Tosh; his loving children, Dianne (Bill) Campbell of Spencerport, Don (Donna) Tosh of East Bethany, and Floyd (Judy) Tosh, Jr. of East Rochester; loving grandchildren, Erin and D.J. Tosh, Amy (Michael) Mayer, Katie O'Brien and great-granddaughter, Madison; his sister, Patricia (Fred) Foster of Canandaigua; nieces and nephews. He was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Company.
