Kendall student receives
Stan Sherwood Award
Kendall senior Jenna Gaesser has received the Stan Sherwood Memorial Award for excellence in athletics. Only one female and one male from the schools within the Genesee Region Athletic Association are selected for this award. Jenna played varsity soccer for four years, varsity track for three, and varsity basketball. Recipients must participate in at least two sports for four years. She was also selected as someone who treats others as she would like to be treated herself; keeps things in perspective between family, school and athletics; shows leadership qualities and attends practices daily trying to improve herself and the others around her; does not demand respect, but earns the respect of her coaches, teammates and opponents through her actions on and off the field; and plays hard to win, handles victory graciously and is humble in defeat.
For 33 years, Stan Sherwood was a physical education and health teacher as well as coach for Elba Central Schools. The qualities sought for the recipients of this award are those qualities that were most important to Sherwood in his lifetime of dealing with young student athletes. Jenna will receive a $250 check and a plaque.
