Spencerport's Canal View Elementary School, which opens in the fall, has received a $5,000 state grant for a new playground. State Senator George Maziarz and Assemblyman Bill Reilich worked to get the grant.

This grant will be combined with donations from the parents associations from other elementary schools in the district and funds allocated through the capital improvement project to install a playground system. Students, parents, faculty and community have teamed together on this initiative and plan to install the new playground this August. The playground will be ready for student use by the opening day of school.
