Local women medal at 2003 Empire State Senior Games
Three area women, Millie Gianfagna of Brockport; Gloria Miller of Greece, and Ginny Catalino of Spencerport wouldn't let the inclement weather at the 2003 Empire State Senior Games held June 11-15 at SUNY Cortland "rain" on their parade. The three women, all members of the Salmon Creek Country Club Women's Tennis League, brought home medals in their respective age brackets when they finally got to play their matches on Saturday and Sunday. Millie Gianfagna and Gloria Miller won the gold medal for the second year in a row in the 75-80 doubles bracket and Ginny Catalino and her partner, Irma Hill of Rego Park, New York, won the bronze medal in the 70-74 doubles division. Rain delayed playing their matches on both June 12 and 13, but they were able to play their matches when drier weather prevailed on June 14 and 15. All three women have medalled in previous Senior Games when held at Syracuse University as well as at SUNY Cortland. The trio has been playing tennis in the Salmon Creek tennis league several times weekly for many years.
