Harper Scholarship Award
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County announces the selection of Patrick Ellsworth of Hilton as one of the recipients of the Harper Scholarship Award for the 2002-2003 academic year. Each year the scholarship, provided by 4-H alumnus and life long supporter Mr. Ralph S. Harper of Rochester, is awarded to two outstanding 4-H seniors who, in the eyes of the selection committee, exemplify the values of 4-H achievement, leadership, citizenship and service. The Harper Scholarship presentation will take place on July 27 at the Monroe County Fair.
Ellsworth, a graduate of Hilton High School, was a member of the National Honor Society and stood twelfth in his class of 367. He played lacrosse and football and participated in several school functions and activities. He serves as vice president of the Buttonwood Livestock 4-H Club and exhibits his animals every year at the Monroe County Fair, helping to educate the public about the dairy industry and also showing at the New York State Fair. He also works at the Roc-Ells Dairy Farm. Throughout his ten years as a member of the 4-H Program, he has won over twenty-four awards in the area of agriculture and dairy. Ellsworth serves as a role model for the younger members in his 4-H Club, teaching them about work ethic, responsibility and leadership.
