Brockport woman medals in national swimming championships
The United States Swimming Master National Short Course Championships were held in Tempe, Arizona from May 15 to 18. The Sea Devil Masters and Arizona State University sponsored the event. Swimming for Niagara District, which includes Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo, was Irene D'Agostino, a Brockport resident. She won the 1650 yard freestyle event and became the 2003 National Champion in her age group. She also placed third in the 50 yard butterfly, 50 yard breast stroke, the 100 yard and 200 yard individual medley and fourth in the 500 yard freestyle. These places earned her 50 points for the Niagara District Team. 1,944 swimmers participated in the National meet and this included 30 ex-Olympians. D'Agostino's next swim competition will be the Empire State Games which will be held in Brockport, at the State University 50 meter pool. The rest of the events are being held in Buffalo.
