Tim Milgate Golf Tournament
to benefit Golisano Children's Hospital
Organizers of the fourth annual Tim Milgate Golf Tournament are seeking participants for this year's event, which will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Deerfield Country Club in Brockport. The tournament will feature a scramble format with a shotgun start.
The tournament is held each year to raise funds for Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, and to keep alive the memory of Tim Milgate, a man who family members say loved children. Milgate was murdered in his Greece home on June 27, 1995. No one has been arrested for the crime and the investigation continues. Milgate's family is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.
During its first year, the tournament had 112 golfers. Last year, 156 people participated, causing the family to move the event to a larger course. "It's been such a phenomenal success," says Debbie Moyer, Tim Milgate's sister and event organizer.
Laidlaw Education Services is the major sponsor of this year's tournament, which is also receiving strong support from Vision Ford, JetBlue Airways, and many other businesses. "The prizes are out of this world," Moyer says. "We have everything from golf balls to round-trip airline tickets, even the possibility of winning a car."
Organizers are donating proceeds from this year's tournament to Golisano Children's Hospital - the Rochester region's only children's hospital - for the third consecutive year. "The hospital is very close to our heart," Moyer says. "Tim loved kids. Touching the lives of children, that's what it's all about."
