Paul Shewan to direct the RWCCO
Following a national search for a musical director for the Roberts Wesleyan College Community Orchestra, Paul Shewan, RWC faculty member, has been selected as conductor, beginning with this 2003-2004 season.
Shewan, who is completing his doctorate program in conducting at the Eastman School of Music, has also conducted the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and conducted the orchestra at the Csehy Summer School of Music. He has been a member of the RPO trumpet section and has played numerous times with the Buffalo Philharmonic. He has recorded as soloist and conductor for the Albany Records Label. He is a graduate of Churchville-Chili and Roberts Wesleyan. Presently he teaches trumpet, music education and conducting, as well as directing the RWC Wind Ensemble.
He and his wife, Joy, have four children, all musicians. Emily plays French horn and piano, David plays horn and piano, Aaron plays horn and Lydia plays violin and piano.
The sixty-member RWCCO is a collaboration of local community musicians with student music majors. Those in the Rochester area who would like to re-energize their instrumental skills by playing with this ensemble may call Professor Shewan at 594-1246 or e-mail shewanp@roberts.edu with inquires. The orchestra meets on Monday evenings. First rehearsal is September 8 at 7 p.m.
